Currently, I work on a wacom tablet with light pen for both the initial sketch phase and the finish product. It took me a few months to get use to sketching this way. Originally, I did it because I had run out of paper, lol! I usually suggest not to get a tablet larger that a piece of paper. That’s the size I sketch on so why make the surface I work on for digital any larger.
I use Corel Painter to paint digitally and use Photoshop for clean up and file conversion for the web. I know it might seem odd, but I like that Painter is a painting program only the very latest Photoshop has tried to do this. Many artists forget that Photoshop is a photo manipulation program first.
I once had a weird argument in a bar with the Adobe guys. I said I’d use Their products for painting (digitally) if they actually had a painting program. They had no retort.
Sorry for the tangent. I do still doodle sketch with pens and sometimes pencil on paper. I also weirdly like drawing on sticky notes.
